OFC 2023

OFC 2023

The Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition (OFC) 2023 will be held from March 7-9, 2023, in San Diego, USA.

It is the world’s largest conference and exhibition for optical communications and networking professionals, attracting researchers, industry leaders, and academics from around the world.

It attracts researchers, industry leaders and academics from around the world, providing them with a unique platform to exchange ideas and knowledge. More than 15,000 participants from over 70 countries are expected to attend this year’s event.

We will present together with the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI)  at the conference and will showcase current innovations in the area of Photonic Components, Networks, and Systems at Fraunhofer booth 4519. HHI is one of the world’s leading developers of mobile and optical communication networks and systems as well as video signal coding and data processing. Together with international partners from research and industry, Fraunhofer HHI works across the entire spectrum of digital infrastructure – from fundamental research to the development of prototypes and solutions.

The department Hybrid PICs’ integration technology PolyBoard combines polymer-based PICs with InP. This enables complex photonic integrated circuits, such as waveguide-integrated THz receiver PICs for wireless communications and self-calibrated laser sources for telecommunications, datacom, sensing and spectroscopy. The THz receiver PIC uses tunable lasers, modulators and isolators to achieve on-chip injection locking and inject the THz signal into the waveguide-integrated photoconductive antenna. The self-calibrated laser source uses the function of the micro-optical bench on the PolyBoard, which enables precise wavelength readout through thin-film filters, etalons and photodiodes. The two PICs are funded by the EU TERAWAY and TERAmeasure projects.

We are pleased to be part of this global gathering and is excited about the networking and collaboration opportunities it will provide.

Opportunities to enter the world of photonics
Photonics is one of the most exciting and innovative areas of applied research. Hybrid integrated photonic devices form the basis for dynamically growing application fields in telecommunications, sensor technology, environmental analysis, diagnostics and quantum technology.

We are pleased to give you an insight into the working world of photonics and its entry opportunities. We have invited various companies to present themselves and their jobs. In addition, our colleagues from the different areas will report on their daily work: from students to microtechnologists to scientific employees, you can get to know the whole range of photonics at Fraunhofer HHI.

You will also have the opportunity to visit our labs and talk to the company representatives and ask questions.

You can register here via the website.

Deadline is October 25, 2022.

All further information can be found on our flyer.

Our hygiene rules at Fraunhofer HHI can be found here. (Status 23.06.2022)

LASER World of PHOTONICS – Trade Fair for the Photonics Industry

LASER World of PHOTONICS – Trade Fair for the Photonics Industry

April 26-29, 2022 | Munich Trade Fair Center

LASER World of PHOTONICS – Trade Fair for the Photonics Industry

25th world’s leading trade fair for photonics components, systems and applications

This spring, Munich will once again become the center of the international photonics industry for a few days as the world’s leading trade fair LASER World of PHOTONICS 2022 opens its doors at the Munich Exhibition Center. PolyPhotonics Berlin e.V. will also be present at this year’s trade fair.

The German photonics industry is recovering quickly economically after a decline in sales in the pandemic year 2020 and is optimistic about the future. The industry association SPECTARIS forecasts significant growth of up to 14 percent for 2021 and a significant increase in subsequent years. The global market for photonics has also seen strong growth despite the pandemic. “We are pleased to make an important contribution with LASER World of PHOTONICS 2022, timed appropriately in the spring, to continue the positive trend in the photonics industry,” explains Dr. Reinhard Pfeiffer, Deputy CEO of Messe München.

The trade show had to be postponed in 2021 due to the corona pandemic, but the scientific congress could at least be held in digital format. “The upcoming trade show will once again bring the international trade audience together on site for an intensive exchange about innovations and products, to intensify existing business relationships and to establish new ones,” Pfeiffer said. Project manager Anke Odouli adds: “To this end, we are relying on our detailed protection and hygiene concept, which has already proven itself many times over. “

LASER World of PHOTONICS will also have a broad international presence in 2022. Companies from 30 countries had registered by mid-January. The USA and China are particularly well represented, but a company from Australia has also booked a booth at the trade show for the first time. Market leaders from the photonics sector and major industry-related research institutes have also confirmed their participation, including TRUMPF Laser- und Systemtechnik, Coherent Shared Services, IPG Laser, LASER COMPONENTS Germany, Fraunhofer-Society, Laser 2000, Newport Spectra-Physics, Berlin Partner for Business and Technology and JENOPTIK Optical Systems. In large parts of the economy, innovations are now inconceivable without the contribution of photonics. For example, photonics plays a decisive role in future-proofing vehicles, provides physicians with live transmissions from living cells, optimizes quality controls in industry and enables data transmission from space at the speed of light. The trade show will focus on laser systems for industrial manufacturing, lasers and optoelectronics, optics, sensor technology, measurement and testing technology, and manufacturing technologies for optics.

In 2022, the World of QUANTUM will celebrate its premiere with its own hall dedicated to what is currently probably the most exciting future field of photonics: quantum technology and its diverse potential applications. Messe München is thus creating a platform for networking research, industry and users, discussing the appropriate implementation of current research results in systems and presenting the first examples of applications for this future technology in computing and cryptography, sensor technology and imaging, communication and medicine. Dr. Wilhelm Kaenders, Chairman of the LASER World of PHOTONICS Exhibitor Advisory Board and CEO of TOPTICA Photonics AG: “Just as Messe München discovered the then newly emerging laser applications as the central theme of a new global technology trade fair back in 1973, it is once again on a visionary path today with its focus on the topic of quantum. It is to be expected that Munich will become a central marketplace for the technology of the unfolding century in the years to come. “LASER World of PHOTONICS will be held at the Munich Exhibition Center from April 26 to 29, 2022, and the next World of Photonics Congress will be held together with the next trade show in June 2023.
